Let's Move! STL First Annual 5K Relay
This year, we hosted our first annual 5K relay! We want to thank everyone for their support and participation in the 5K relay. This year we had a total of 9 relay teams participate in the race. On behalf of Let's Move! STL, several different interactive stations were set up to nourish and motivate the runners and their families, including:
- Hydration Station
- Fueling Station with the Let's Move! STL Blender Bike to make smoothies
- A Stretching/Warm-Up Station
- First-Aid Station
- Prizes and Registration Station
- Family Resource Station
We were honored to have gracious support from Girls On The Run who helped our runners stretch out and warm up for the race ahead. As a special guest, Jackee Joyner-Kersee joined us to help motivate and encourage runners. She gave a wonderful opening speech and excited runners and families! Relay teams each wore different colors to represent their teams and had a blast dancing with Jackee Joyner-Kersee before the race began.
Once the race started, runners were cheered on by families, volunteers, Girls On The Run, Jackee Joyner-Kersee and fellow teammates as each runner completed two laps around the track. It was wonderful to see the confidence and elation in each of the runners once they completed their two laps. After the race, awards were given to the top 3 teams and each participant received a fun swag bag with Let's Move! STL and other sponsors' goodies.
This event could not have been successful without the support from relay coaches who donated their time and energy to work with the runners on a weekly basis to train the runners, teach them how to nourish and hydrate for physical activity, and encourage the runners to set a goal and accomplish it. The coaches and sponsors helped Let's Move! STL and the St. Louis City Department of Health to create an event that helps to build confidence in our youth, illustrate the power of team work, and expose the youth runners to various aspects of healthy living!
We also thank our community partners who helped sponsor this event:
